Rockford Area Lutheran Ministries sells Korv as part of fundraiser

ROCKFORD (WREX) - Rockford Area Lutheran Ministries is getting into the holiday spirit with traditional Swedish sausages.

Korv is a Swedish delicacy that's eaten around Christmas time and dates back centuries. The group of Lutheran churches is selling the sausage by the pound for its annual fundraiser. A large team of volunteers made up of students from Rockford Lutheran High School and community members made sausages at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford.

"For some people this has been a part of their Christmas story for years," said Rockford Area Lutheran Ministries Executive Director Amy Hoening. "They've been buying this meat, their grandparents bought it and so they continue to continue on. This has been 65 years it's been going on in our community. We purchase 1,600 pounds and we will sell out probably by end of day today."

The funds raised during the sale go toward efforts supported by the group like Becca's Closet, Park Players and Laundry Love.
