FREEPORT (WREX) — Aquin senior basketball player Abby Barr is our newest WREX Athlete of the Week.

Barr has dominated for the Lady Bulldogs since taking the court as a freshman. She surpassed the 1,000 point mark for her career as a junior, and is focused on having a successful senior season.

"I didn't even realize how much I scored," Barr said. "I just want to win."

The way she scores those points is reminiscent of former Aquin great Sophie Brunner, who led the team to two state championships and still plays professionally in Italy.

"To say they think I play like her, that's crazy," Barr said.

Barr is adept at using either hand to finish, depending on what she needs to do.

"They can't figure out if she's right or left-handed," Aquin head coach Doral Reining said. "She shoots outside right-handed. Inside she likes her left hand. So that's a little different."

She says her ambidexterity came about after breaking her collarbone prior to her freshman year. Her and her brother would still go shoot around, and it helped her develop the ability to use either hand equally well.

With one more season on the hardwood with the Lady Bulldogs, Barr hopes to build a few more memories with her teammates this season.
