Richard joined WREX in June of 2019 as a Multi-Media Journalist. He comes to us from Chicago where he recently graduated from DePaul University with his Master’s degree in broadcast journalism.
He grew up in Darien, Illinois, a southwestern suburb about 35 minutes from downtown Chicago. Richard graduated from Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism.
He began his career in journalism with the Mt. Vernon Register-News and the McLeansboro Times-Leader in Mount Vernon, Illinois and McLeansboro, Illinois respectively. Richard served as a newspaper reporter, photographer and columnist for the newspapers, which are no longer in print.
He then went to DePaul University to study broadcasting. He reported and anchored the desk for Good Day DePaul, the university’s broadcast news network. Additionally, he served as the chief photographer for DePaul’s student-run newspaper, The DePaulia, in its coverage of the men’s basketball team. He interned with Carol Marin at NBC 5 Chicago assisting her in both the 2018 Gubernatorial Forum and the 2019 Mayoral Forum. He was part of a student-team that produced an exposé for WTTW on Chicago’s booting regulations for private companies.
Richard’s passion for journalism began as an undergraduate after he took a journalism elective.
When he isn’t at work, you can find Richard running, playing basketball or enjoying downtown Rockford.
Little known facts about Richard:
- I enjoy painting and golfing.
- I’m a cancer survivor and I try to get involved in organizations involving cancer research.
- I once guarded Anthony Davis in high school.
