ROCKFORD (WREX) — 500 new jobs are coming to the Chicago Rockford International Airport. And they’re available right now.
Pinnacle Logistics and RFD announced the new jobs at a news conference Wednesday afternoon. The jobs, which are available immediately, are for all positions to support additional cargo flights at the airport.
Last July, RFD became the 22nd largest airport int he nation for cargo volume, up from 31st the year prior.
Earlier Wednesday, the Federal Aviation Administration announced a $9 million grant for RFD. This money is expected to be used on a new apron construction project.
The Pinnacle Logistics jobs include entry-level positions, leads, supervisors and managers on duty, as well as dockworkers, forklift drivers and ramp and cargo warehouse handling agents. Both permanent and seasonal jobs are available, with starting pay at $14/hour.
“We knew our cargo growth would produce more jobs in 2019 and this is just the beginning,” said RFD executive director Mike Dunn in a news release.
This jobs news comes exactly one month after aviation repair company AAR announced it was laying off 80 workers in June at its Rockford facility located at RFD. The company did not give a reason for the layoffs or guarantee that those workers would be re-hired.
