UPDATE: Rockford Police arrest man for shooting that injured two people

ROCKFORD (WREX) — UPDATE: Rockford Police have a suspect in custody, following a shooting that put two people in the hospital.

Around 12:30 Sunday afternoon, police were in the area of 17th Street and 6th Avenue when they heard gunshots and two vehicles driving away from the area.

Two victims, a 26-year-old and a 29-year-old, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Shortly after, officers found a suspect vehicle abandoned int he 1500 block of 7th Avenue and two suspects nearby.

Officers arrested both men. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges against one of those suspects 25-year-old Rayshawn Montgomery.

Montgomery faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in a vehicle and no FOID. He is being held at the Winnebago County Jail.

Rockford Police are on the scene of a shooting on the city’s southeast side.

The police department tweeted that it happened in the 600 block of 17th Street.

Two people have been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
