Local leaders announce community reading challenge ‘Read 815’

A new reading campaign called Read 815 was launched Tuesday by local government leaders from around the area.

Read 815 challenges every member of the community to read one book per week between now and the start of the school year. It also implores adults to challenge a child, or group of children, to take the challenge along with them.

Winnebago County Board Chairman Frank Haney, Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara, South Beloit Mayor Ted Rehl and Belvidere Mayor Mike Chamberlain and a number of community organizations unveiled the challenge to the community on Tuesday.

Part of the challenge is to post a weekly selfie on social media to get people interested and excited about the challenge. Community members are asked to post your weekly reading selfie on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using one or more of the following hashtags: #Read815 #BookAWeek #ReadingSelfie. You can also follow Read815 on Instagram for contests, prizes and celebrity appearances.
